Whether you host guests year-round or just a few times around the holidays, it’s great to have a separate room for friends and family to crash and really unwind. A guest room is also a nice opportunity to play around with design styles you might not have the guts to attempt in a high-traffic area – hello, bold wallpaper!

This year on Front + Main, we’ve been so inspired by all kinds of guest rooms around the world (literally!). Large or small, single-purpose or multifunctional, kid-friendly or adults-only, sleek or offbeat, modern or quirky, and pretty much everything in between. So whether you’ve got room for a King bed or just a sleeper sofa – or if you have no guest room at all and just want some bedroom inspiration – take a peek at some of our favorites of 2019 below!

1. Pops of pink in East London

Our friends at West Elm UK helped Heather Milner – the interior stylist and PR pro behind @insideherhome – put the finishing touches on her guest room during a major property restoration. We love how the different shades of pink – from the grapefruit Lucent Rug to the bedding to the Roar + Rabbit chair – create visual cohesion without exactly matching nor clashing.

2. Playful mid-century in Palm Springs

The West Elm Palm Springs Design Crew had a blast playing with mid-century modern architecture for this year’s Modernism Week. The full home has many stunning guest bedrooms, but this one is particularly lively with vibrant prints and colors.

3. A mountain retreat in Australia

The West Elm Australia Design Crew teamed up with Hotham Holidays to outfit an exclusive penthouse in the Victorian Alps. The rest of the space is painted a bright sapphire blue, but the guest bedroom is more subdued mountain getaway with plenty of lush textures to cozy things up.

4. Personal touches in upstate New York

For one of two guest rooms in their Hudson Valley home, actors Zosia Mamet and Evan Jonigkeit pinned up vintage postcards along one wall for a unique touch and an instant conversation-starter.

5. A tropical oasis in New Orleans

Nothing perks up a room quite like a bold wallpaper. If you’re not sure if you want to take the plunge in a high-traffic area, the guest room is the perfect place to play around, like designer Erin Wheeler did in this New Orleans shotgun-style home.

6. A moody nook just outside of London

We loved all the dark interiors in the U.K. home of Amanda Cotton (@houselust), and we’re especially into this alcove in the guest room. Bonus: The Penelope 3-Drawer Dresser is perfect for a guest room – it can fit more than enough clothing for a week-long stay, while also being just right size to double as an XL nightstand.

7. Half-office, half-guest room in NYC

Hey, not everyone has the room for both an office and a guest room, and we’re all about multi-functional pieces here at West Elm. That’s why we love this home office space in NYC outfitted by the West Elm Broadway Design Crew, which easily converts to a guest room thanks to the ultra-comfortable Paidge Sleeper Sofa.

The clean, costal vibes in this room designed by the Design Crew with West Elm Charleston are inviting enough to make any guest feel at-home.
