It’s hard not to love the Instagramable aesthetic of Joshua Tree, California: desert living, clay colors, sky-high trees straight out of Dr Seuss (you know the ones!) and all-around easy-breeziness. That’s probably part of the reason Rich and Sara Combs, a husband-and-wife design team and creators of The Joshua Tree House, have found such success with their digital brand (@thejoshuatreehouse), their book (At Home in Joshua Tree) and their vacation rentals in Joshua Tree, designed with that very aesthetic in mind.

The couple’s latest project moves the Joshua Tree look down south to the Posada, a gut-renovated 5-suite inn just outside of Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. Ahead of our new store opening in Tucson in spring 2020, we sent the West Elm LA store’s Design Crew down there to outfit the “Agave Suite” with West Elm furniture and accessories. Robyn Melrose of the West Elm LA Design Crew headed up the project from the West Elm side and collaborated with Rich and Sara to bring their vision to life.

“We wanted to make it all about that beautiful view in the living room,” says Robyn. “We had some existing mustard and camel colors in the space, and we designed the suite to look really cohesive through the color palette and desert vibe. We brought it from the kitchen to the outdoor space to the living room — having those small pops all over really ties things together.”
