Just an hour or so outside of NYC sits Port Chester, New York. This seaport city has rich historic ties and is now known for its hip restaurants and converted industrial spaces. Maria Cambria, the lead design specialist with West Elm Scarsdale, recently took on a design project at the Mariner Apartments. Her client, Christine Fay, had recently moved into this luxury apartment building after downsizing from a larger home and was eager to complete the space – and enjoy the amazing views of the Byram River from the living room.

“Christine studies feng shui and wanted to bring in all the elements – water, wood, fire + metal – into her living space. She was so pleased to be able to accomplish this look + feel with a selection of West Elm product,” Maria says. “The end result is a space that’s clean, modern – and fabulous!”

Living Room

The apartment is centered around the L-Shaped Harmony Sectional in Distressed Velvet. “The living room space in Christine’s apartment really has some good size to it, so we were easily able to outfit it with the Harmony Sectional. It’s so incredibly comfortable, and is deep with room for many pillows, all while being able to seat many friends and family,” says Maria. “She wanted a warm and inviting living space for entertaining and this definitely fits the bill.”

Bringing nature inside was an important design detail Christine wanted to incorporate into her new apartment. By using two of the Natural Tree Stump Side Tables, it not only added great texture to the space, the pieces are light enough to move around easily – and make for quick additional seating when gathering in the living room.

Kitchen + Dining Room

Since the kitchen itself has an extensive amount of counter-space, with an extra-long counter area that allows for seating, getting a smaller dining table was an easy choice. The Wren Bistro Table, along with three Leather Slope Dining Chairs fits perfectly behind the sofa and creates an instant focal-point when you first walk into the apartment. To complete the space, Maria used the Reclaimed Wood + Lacquer Buffet tying together the natural wood tones found throughout the apartment.

“My favorite part about the kitchen and dining area has to be the pairing of the Slope dining chairs and matching counter stools. The Saddle color of the leather warms up the space, bringing in the natural tones of the rug and copper pillows from the living room,” says Maria. “The Slope collection really is the most comfortable – has just the right amount of give in the back.”

Beautiful design. What brand and color pain is in the living room?
