Nothing like relaxing in a hammock on a screened-in front porch with the sea breeze filling the air. Ah, the joys of coastal living! The Design Crew with West Elm Charleston recently took on a beach house project on Sullivan’s Island that encompasses just that and more. Keeping with the relaxed atmosphere of this beach front coastal community, the main design goal of this three-bedroom duplex was that the interiors feel casual and comfortable.

The homeowner, Julie Hellman, uses one side of the large duplex mainly as a guest house for friends and family to use while visiting the Charleston area. Erica Stine, lead stylist with West Elm Charleston’s Design Crew, took a simplistic approach to the design of the interiors – focusing on natural materials and neutral gray tones. “Julie and her sister Paige wanted the space to feel like a true beach house. Something to be used without fear of salt and sand,” says Erica.

It was key for each of the three bedrooms to have their own unique look and feel. Erica accomplished this goal by intermixing multiple styles of Mid-Century and modern beds with various textures of rugs and table lamps. “I love the way the nightstands add such character to each of the bedrooms,” says Erica. “Especially in the master bedroom, the Carved Wood Side Tables are an instant focal point when you walk into the space.” The main bedding element used throughout all the bedrooms, along with the Leesa Mattresses + Pillows is the White Belgian Flax Linen Duvets – a beach house must-have.
