When David Wolfe, the CEO and co-founder of Leesa Mattress, and his wife Helen were in the finishing stages of completing their new 3-story coastal home in Virginia Beach in the summer of 2018, they knew that they wanted the interiors of the space to be minimal with a fresh, modern feel to it. Located in the Cavalier Residences of the historical Cavalier Hotel, the home is just a few minutes from the water. Bright white walls and thoughtful use of color complete this modern beach house that’s a perfect sanctuary for the couple the enjoy – especially when hosting friends + family.

Naturally, the bedrooms were an important area of the home to focus on for rest and relaxation. All of the beds in the home are Leesa’s classic all-foam mattress – including the 3rd floor lofted bedroom space with two sets of twin-sized built-in trundle beds. In the Master Bedroom, the couple outfitted their king size Andes Deco Upholstered Bed with the Leesa Adjustable Base Foundation, allowing individual control while elevating both the head and feet on both sides for a spa-like experience. Crisp white linens + Leesa Pillows complete these cozy retreats.

When it came to the interior elements of the home, the Wolfes sought out the design expertise of Paxton Buckingham, lead stylist with West Elm Virginia Beach’s Design Crew. Paxton worked with the couple during the last phases of construction through the move in date. Defining a neutral color palette that incorporates thoughtful uses of color tones was a main goal for this home, and Paxton helped with everything from designing the layout + flow, making furniture selections with the couple, down to the final finishing touches of hanging art pieces from the Wolfe’s curated collection.

“I loved mixing various styles of seating in each room. It was important to the Wolfes that these pieces weren’t too large to help keep the open feeling throughout the home, especially in the main living area,” says Paxton. “The Patina Rug in Deep Teal in the living room really set the mood for the entire home – and helped to connect the blue tones of the velvet Mid-Century Dining Chairs in the light-filled dining room with the open kitchen space overlooking the living room.”

Helen notes that she loved the whole process of working with the Design Crew. “Designing the interior of our new home was an incredible collaboration between my husband, myself and Paxton Buckingham and Laura Wilson of West Elm,” she says. “The result is a wonderfully crafted tapestry that combines our modern style and taste, the artistry of West Elm’s Design Crew, with the beauty + functionality of West Elm furniture and accessories. Our new house is now a home. Oh yes, our kitchen is a William-Sonoma extravaganza too!”
