Who doesn’t like a good lobster roll? I mean the name itself triggers mouthwatering thoughts, am I right? (50 shades of lobster?). I remember the first time I saw a lobster roll I thought to myself “wtf? Is this a fishy hot dog?” and oh how naive I was. Once I tried, it I totally loved it — so simple and genius! Since then I’ve had my fair share of rolls, and I’ve done quite a few at home.
Today I’ll share with you the recipe I make when I’m in lobster roll craving mode, it’s packed with fresh herbs (subtle herbs though so you still taste the lobster), and also has some crab, because let’s be real, lobster is tasty but it’s also $$$.
This is also another great recipe to bring to a picnic since you can pack it all up and make them on the spot, also fantastic “lazy” dinner when you don’t wanna be near a stove (with this heat the sight of a stove makes me dizzy).
Oh and make sure to get really good fresh buns for this, there’s nothing worse than a dry boring bun! I recommend you pick them up early in the morning from the bakery or you get some from a good local bakery.
Herbed Lobster & Crab Rolls
- ½ cup lobster meat (you can choose tail or trimmings)
½ cup crab meat (real one! Not imitation, you can do trimmings or claw meat)
¼ cup good mayo
1 handful fresh dill
1 handful fresh parsley
1 handful fresh cilantro
2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp freshly cracked pepper
1 lemon, zest and juice
Watercress to serve
Good hot dog buns
Radishes or any other pickled or regular veggies
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix. Taste for seasoning and acidity and adjust if needed. You can add a touch of malt vinegar if you like it extra tangy.
Heat up the hot dog buns, add some watercress, season with salt and pepper, add the lobster and crab mix, some radishes or other veggies of your liking and dig in!
