Don’t get us wrong—we love the contrast of good pre-war/Modern pairing, but there’s something to be said for listening to your home’s bones and decorating for the era in which it was built. Whether that means selecting early-twentieth century American pieces for a Prairie-style bungalow or going full-on contemporary in your new-construction condo, there’s a certain harmony that arises from selecting furniture that was made for a certain kind of space. This is the decorating approach that Sarah and Duane Reed take when decorating homes for their staging business, and the one that informed the decor of their own Portland bungalow. Built in the 1950s, the property features modest detailing, simple lines, and a charming guest house in the back. To complement the space, the Reeds decided to bring in Mid-Century-inspired pieces that could work alongside the simplicity of the home. “We have a smaller house,” they note, “so we wanted to keep a minimal approach when choosing our furnishings. “We wanted pieces that not only looked great, but would function well with and wouldn’t overwhelm the space. We love monochromatic color schemes and are heavily inspired by Scandinavian design.” The result is a home that combines the simplicity and warmth of Mid-Century design, along with elements that speak directly to the aesthetics of the Pacific Northwest. Effortlessly charming, it’s cozy and beautiful without being fussy. Take a closer look below!

Beautiful place! Love the simplicity, yet warm. By chance are you able to help with the name of the in hour bedroom accent color (blue)? It’s gorgeous. Thank you in advance.

How does one buy and how much for that coffee table featured in the decor?
