The age-old dilemma: how do you make a home that is family-friendly and kid-safe without sacrificing style—or at least some semblance of being an adult? Suzy Holman, the proprietor of a photo studio in Denver, has been attempting to answer this question since she and her family of five moved into their home two years ago. “We wanted a calm, breathable space that allowed for toddler dance parties and scooters in the house,” Suzy says. Read: nothing breakable. “We also wanted spaces that fostered art and a creative spirit, [with] minimal decor and a nod to Southwestern style to remind us of home.” A tall order? Perhaps, but one that Suzy has been able to accomplish quite skillfully. The home that Suzy and her family have built is one that is warm and brimming with creativity. Paintings by her children plaster entire walls; a large chalkboard in the living room is home to an ever-changing array of art. Rooms have been kept clutter-free with rugs used to add visual interest and furniture kept largely to the periphery (perfect for running around). The real kicker? It all looks amazing.
