west elm was born in Brooklyn, so you know we love a good brownstone. (But seriously, what’s not to love? High ceilings, prewar moldings, giant windows—swooooon.) Over the years, numerous Brooklyn townhouses have acted as sets for our product shoots and catalog spreads and, although each one is beautiful in its own way, shooting in them does present some complications. “When we go on location,” says lead Art Director Michelle Meick, “there’s a lot of logistics—it’s not best for light and there’s so much other furniture we need to move around.” So, for our Fall 2017 catalog, we decided to try something new: instead of going to the brownstone, why not bring the brownstone to us? With the help of some expert set-builders, we did just that. Take a closer look at our brand-new Townhouse “permaset” below!
