Taking on a home renovation project especially when you have to work through an East coast winter! Washington, DC resident, Michelle Solobay and her husband bravely took on this challenge. Michelle’s husband took on the construction whilst she handled the finishings and the interior – a dream team! See how their renovated DC home came together & click on the images to shop the look!
What was the biggest challenge you faced with the renovation and how did you overcome it?
“Staying on schedule proved to be our greatest challenge. Permitting for our addition took much longer than we had hoped, which resulted in the pour of our concrete foundation happening in February (not ideal for many reasons!). We had to wait for non-freezing temperatures to pour and move forward with the addition. Patience really goes a long way with home renovation! You just have to keep in mind the finished product will outweigh any grievances along the way.”
How would you describe your home’s style?
The style of our home is a blend of mid-century, Scandinavian and boho modern design.
Where did you go to seek inspiration for the space?
My great sources of inspiration were Dwell, Pinterest, Houzz and Instagram.
What’s your favorite room in the house and why?
Our master suite is absolutely my favorite room. The color palette and artwork we selected is very therapeutic and cancels out the noise of everyday life. I really enjoy a good shower so we designed our en suite with that in mind. It has a large walk-in with playful geometric tile which extends outside the glass enclosure to the length of the wall on the double vanity side.
