Anthony’s 175-sq-ft living room is guaranteed proof that your tiny apartment can still feel big and beautiful!

Anthony is the founder of Zio & Sons, one of our favorite local styling agencies. When we saw how they turned his cramped East Village space into a comfy living room/dining room/office, we asked them to spill all their professional secrets.

Read on to see Zio & Sons’ transformation and 6 powerful tips for maximizing your small space with style.

1. Start clean + white.

An all-white room will make your space feel brighter and bigger than it really is. Zio & Sons went the extra mile and pickled Anthony’s floors white for a cozy Scandinavian vibe.

2. Add a huge mirror.

The oversized vintage mirror creates an illusion of higher ceilings and opens up the room. Using your wall space to its full potential is key!

3. Think vintage.

Hit the flea markets, and maybe you’ll be lucky as Anthony. His vintage folding farmhouse table is amazing – hard to believe it pulls-out and opens-up to seat six people.

4. Little shelves add valuable surface space.

Coffee tables + consoles with extra shelves will double your surface space for storage + display. Zio & Sons picked an extra narrow console for Anthony’s entryway, but its still plenty big enough for dropping keys + sunglasses.

5. Look for nooks.

Anthony’s coffee table tucks nicely under his wall unit, so he can push it against the wall and clear some space for yoga in the mornings.

6. Prioritize comfort.

Comfort was a priority for Anthony, so Zio & Sons transformed the entire back wall of his living room into a space for lounging. The big sofa in a small space seems counterintuitive, but here it works!

Does anyone know where that modern fold-out secretary desk is from? I’ve been searching high and low for just that piece in my tiny NYC apartment!

Cheerful & comfortable. Love the funky original art. The couch does look inviting, but I think I would have gone with a lighter shade as the room is so narrow. Where are all the chairs that go with the table? I have an equally small living room with 2 doorways and 2 closet doors. It ain’t easy!

Beautiful home. Question, where did you find that secretary-type of desk? I love it! Thank you.
