Allow us to introduce you to Andrea!
As a brand manager for west elm here at the Brooklyn office, Andrea organizes amazing events at our stores all over the world, so she knows how to throw a party. This year she’s planning her own wedding, and since we just launched the west elm Wedding + Gift Registry, Andrea has been the office’s go-to expert on all things bridal.
Andrea visited Sierra Steifman of Poppies + Posies at their NYC studio to look at arrangements with photographer Winnie Au, and she brought back Sierra’s expert wedding flower advice, along with tips about how to choose + work with a florist that makes you happy.
Read on for wedding flower wisdom that anyone can use no matter where you live or what kind of wedding you have planned.
1. Don’t Be Shy
“What’s most important first-step for amazing weddings flowers? Find a florist who you trust and enjoy working with. Start by talking to a lot of different florists. This will give you a feel for how much things should cost, and will help you define exactly what you want.”
2. Choose Your Florist
“Not sure if your florist knows their stuff? Flowers are seasonal, so the flowers they suggest should be that season’s best blooms, and not available all year round. Your florist should help you ensure that you have the highest quality flowers at your wedding when the day comes – any day of the year.”
3. Before Your Visit
“Focus on defining the colors + styles you love, and try not to worry or do too much research about specific plants. Pinterest is also good source for visual inspiration that you can print and share! But to stay open minded about the exact type of flowers used, you’ll be off to a good start!”
4. Keep Your Centerpiece Unscented
“Keep away from flowers with strong scents! Stopping to smell the roses is nice, but at a party you want to make sure that none of your guests are bothered by the table arrangements.”
Now you can register at west elm for a wedding, birthday, anniversary, housewarming or “just because” present!
