Stephen Antonson is known for his plaster creations — high-end commissions handmade from a mixture of gypsum and water formed around a lightweight armature. For his collection for west elm, Antonson pulled from his archive of familiar but imperfect shapes (including candlesticks and mirror frames) that were cast to make molds for mass production. Both delicate and deliberate — the collection captures Stephen’s hand and imperfections in the carves and pinches that mimic the custom pieces.
