Designer Shirry Dolgin was eager to share the results of her work for her southern California clients. See how she pulled the living room together using west elm’s Oliver Chairs in the Palm print from Allegra Hicks and a fit-it-almost-anywhere Framed Side Table…
I was hired by my client to design their new home in a way that felt light, bright, and contemporary. They were on a budget and didn’t want to do any major renovations, but basically wanted to spruce up the place. I took the approach of finding great classic furniture, designing a bright color palette, and gave them a layout that would function for their needs.
My approach in this was to stick with furniture that would be properly scaled for the space. Since this room was very long and narrow, I was able to allocate enough room for a dining area and living area by using proportionality sized furniture. I selected several pieces from west elm since the style is timeless, the scale was right on target and it was totally affordable!
It was such a unique space because not only is this the center of the home, it is the main pass-through from the entry to the kitchen. So I made sure there was enough seating for entertaining and that the furniture would make a statement but still allow a lot of flow around the long narrow living room. I paired a set of the west elm Oliver chairs in Allegra Hicks Palm print, a Framed Side Table, and sofa with the small scale pattern for a perfect fit! Some colorful accessories and this cool color palette helps make the room feel bright and open.
