As a young first-time homeowner, Sam Stanyon knew that she would need to pinch her pennies when it came to renovating and redecorating the 1976 Raleigh Ranch that she helped save from foreclosure. After moving in with her boyfriend, puppy, and four chickens, Sam quickly learned that judicious splurging and hunting for thrift shop deals was the best route for her budget. “It’s always been important to me to invest in quality pieces that are both meaningful and well-crafted,” she says, “whether that be furniture or pieces of art. For smaller decor items, I love supporting local creators and spending afternoons hunting for vintage gems at the flea market (or Craigslist!).” A New Englander turned Southerner, Sam’s aesthetic displays a mixture of influences and regional styles. “Hints of my coastal upbringing tend to weave their way throughout my home, and I generally gravitate towards the shapes, lines and textures of mid-century design.” Collected and sentimental items are dispersed throughout the light-filled space, lending the already welcoming space a personal feeling.
