Nature has always been a source of inspiration to the designers at west elm, but perhaps never more so than with our latest collection for Spring 2017. This year, our designers sought to bridge the gap between indoors and out with materials, textures, and techniques that speak to the lushness and complexity of the natural world. From reactive glazes that produce one-of-a-kind patterns to woven creations that highlight the intrinsic beauty of their fibers, the push and pull between craft and nature is present throughout many of our latest designs. So, when the time came to photograph them, our catalog and photography teams sought a space that would convey this dialogue between the man-made and natural worlds, one in which nature could co-exist harmoniously in the home. The winning location? A stunning modernist construction, located in the heart of Upstate New York’s Hudson River Valley. With sweeping mountain views filling floor-to-ceiling windows complemented by wooden accents, it proved the perfect canvas for telling our “Connect To Nature” story.
