Starting with a blank slate can have its challenges, especially if that blank slate happens to be 2000-square feet in size. This was the case for Benjamin Heath, a Portland-based commercial photographer who moved into his first home—a 1920 Tudor-style construction—last year. The home was in excellent shape with plenty of natural light, but its bare state necessitated some serious thought. Benjamin partnered up with west elm to help transform the space and “bring it back to life, inside and out.” By layering natural materials like wood and leather with warm-toned metals, Benjamin was able to impart a Mid-Century-style aesthetic that is both inviting and appropriate to the home’s underlying structure.
