Handcrafted: Felt-Making in Nepal
There’s a pretty amazing story behind the felt-making workshop that handcrafts our ornaments, garlands, and wreaths in Nepal.
Two brothers and three sisters from a poor family in Kathmandu started the business together 17 years ago – with only $150. Today their workshop employs over FIVE HUNDRED artisans.
What’s even more impressive is that 96% of the workshop’s crafters are women who are able to support families with jobs that provide vacation time, overtime pay, maternity leave, and the opportunity to learn new skills and to rise within the business.
