before bachelor pad shared space living room bar fireplace design decorate west elm

Kristen and her fiancé wanted to use this apartment in Dallas “to grow up and grow into” while they start their life together. It was important for the space to be comfortable, easy to entertain in and of course — reflect their personal style.

A collaborative effort was in order. My fiancé instantly loved the concrete side tables which I balanced with the large silver teardrop lamps, adding a touch of femininity to the extremely masculine sides. The Nordic style rug kept the space neutral but livened it up adding a new the texture. I always turn to pillows to add character and I found exactly what I was looking for in the sheep hair and metallic throws.

There are trinkets and decorative items throughout the remainder of the space from West Elm (and the whole house!) but the Scribble Curtains in Gray that flank the living room window are the perfect frame. We tried to keep the palette of the main items more neutral while introducing colors through the accessories. Most likely because that’s how I like to style all my spaces and even myself!

I think the most fantastic find was the Rustic Kitchen Island that we repurposed as a bar. Adding a large rectangular Lacquer Tray in a bright blue hue not only served as a resting space for drink glasses and bottles of our favorite liquors but also added a punch of fun color. If an inside bar isn’t in the cards down the road we feel like this piece can be transformed easily to a kitchen island or even placed outdoors with the right finishing!

My favorite piece in the room has to be the bright reupholstered chair that I inherited from my grandma when she passed away. Although the green velour fabric didn’t fit our style or the room but a few yards of this fun fabric helped us round out our new living room! The metallic bar pillow adds the right amount of comfort for the lucky squatter. We hope you enjoy viewing the space as much as we did creating it!

You have too small of spaces with this big furniture.

July 25, 2013

Already have many of these items! Love it. Can you please give a few details on hanging a mirror like the one in the dining room?

July 25, 2013

Where did they get the city art with the street names on them?

July 25, 2013

Where is the sectional from? Looks fabulous!

July 25, 2013

The room looks so much smaller now. The proportions of the furniture pieces are way off and the room is imbalanced with the huge sectional on the left, and the tiny island on the right.

great job! love the bar

Where’s the sofa from?

Less is more for sure! Question. Where are all of the electronic components that go with the TV (DVR, Apple TV, DVD, Etc)? Thanks!

I think as a single couple the space is very functional and the small pieces make the larger pieces come together. As a designer myself the color all come tohether and I think it looks absoultly beautiful.

July 25, 2013

Gorgeous and grown up. Love the mirror in the corner and the sectional. Very swank.

July 25, 2013

Oh my gosh… I must know where you got your coffee table from? Please share!

Can I hire her!? What a gorgeous room! She is so talented and there are so many great little details. I absolutely love it!

July 25, 2013

My favorite piece is the coffee table. There is no mention of it in the description. Is this a West Elm product?

July 25, 2013

i love it! is that a mirror or a tv above the bar area?

July 25, 2013

Liking it… but not loving it… above average but not the greatest. Hey but HOME is all about individuality… just not my style.

I like the mirror hanging in the corner – creative!

July 25, 2013

Just LOVE this – GREAT JOB! 🙂 We have an unusual shaped room like that too so it gave me some ideas. Where did you purchase your couch?

July 25, 2013

Whoa, that is insanely cluttered and looks very uncomfortable to move around in.

The colours are nice but it’s kind of too busy with too many different elements.

July 25, 2013

That is awesome!!

July 25, 2013

No Joke, I just bought a gray sectional! I am def getting those drapes!! LOVE LOVE that Coffee Table! Where is it from?

July 25, 2013

Rebecca Alberts, that’s exactly what I was thinking!

July 25, 2013

Ido not think that the gray tones that you picked match the central feature–the fireplace-at allllll. Got to work with what you have.

July 25, 2013

Love it. What color paint is on the wall? Also do you find the TV ok above the fireplace? My husband wants to put ours there too but I feel I’m going to have crank my neck to watch it.

July 25, 2013

I love it. Very fun and fresh!

July 27, 2013

I think the room is beautiful. You did a fantastic job. I love all the colors. Very modern and yet cozy.

July 28, 2013

i think it’s beautiful. i’d subtract a few pieces, since i’m more of a minimalist. but overall, the grey and white w/ the few print pieces in between are a good combo.

July 28, 2013

Ha! I thought the same as many others; too much in a small space and they don’t have kids. I am very over the cool greys WE is so into.

July 28, 2013

Where did you find the coffee table?!

July 29, 2013
