Brittany was moving to New York City and into her first apartment on her own — but she was starting from scratch! Inspired by the Stencil Rug by Alyson Fox, Brittany worked with west elm Home Stylist Jody McCallum from our Chelsea store to furnish her first place in just 5 short weeks…
Brittany was drawn to the Alyson Fox Rug and when I learned that she was new to the city, I worked with her to build off the foundation of the rug. You can see we picked up the purple and raisin colors in the rug and choose similar colors for the dining room chairs and pillows to unite the space.
Quite a feat for only 5 weeks! Brittany recognizes that her apartment is still very new and she is excited to take the next steps to make the space her own. While she is considering painting, she is eager to add artwork and more personal touches to her new home. In the meantime, she’s off to a great start with all the basics that make a great foundation to her new life in NYC!
We’ll be sharing the Before & After transformation of Brittany’s bedroom in a few weeks — stay tuned
Thanks Jody + Brittany!

Good start, but those walls are bare, except the tiny framed art over the desk. This room is good, but it could be great with some wall art. White walls scream for statement art or beautiful gallery wrapped or framed photographs! It would be great to see what pieces Brittany adds to the walls in an update post.

She just needs some art on those walls to bring a more lived-in feel. Maybe some New York museum posters….it looks
great!

Love the Henry sofa and the simple desk. I have a living room that I have no idea how to decorate/furnish. It’s long and narrow and goes from my home’s front door to the kitchen/family room. All that’s in the room now is an upright piano and two toy boxes!

Thank you SO much for showing a normal apartment! My husband and I live in a duplex and we can’t paint. I feel as if every decor inspiration involves paint but this is a beautiful example of how to decorate even when you can’t paint!

Even if you can’t paint- so many renters can not! try hanging fabric on one wall to add softness. Consider either a similar tone to the existing wall or something with contrast. Use curtain rods or use tacts draping the fabric over the tacts.
